Update your personal and legal documents: We did not make this part easy on ourselves! Florida is a Real ID State. Double check that there haven’t been any changes since this blog post but here’s what you will need to bring with you (assuming you already have a valid drivers license):
Proof of identity: You will need to provide a valid birth certificate, passport, or other government-issued ID to verify your identity.

Proof of Social Security Number: You will need to provide your Social Security number, either by showing your Social Security card or by providing a W-2 form or paystub.

Proof of Residential address: You will need to provide proof of your Florida address, such as a utility bill, lease agreement, or mortgage statement.

Pass a vision test: You will need to pass a vision test to ensure that you are able to safely operate a vehicle.

Payment of fees: You will need to pay the appropriate fees to obtain a driver’s license.

Proof of Insurance: You will need to show proof of insurance if you plan to operate a motor vehicle in Florida.

Proof of Legal Presence: If you are not a U.S. citizen, you will need to provide proof of legal presence in the U.S.

Transfer your medical records: If you have a regular doctor, ask for copies of your medical records to take with you.

Notify important people and organizations: Notify your bank, employer, school, and other important contacts of your move and update your mailing address.

Make plans for transportation: Consider how you will transport your belongings, whether it’s hiring a moving company or renting a truck. There are a lot of scammers out there- deal direct with the company, not a broker!

Make arrangements for your pets: If you have pets, research pet-friendly housing and make arrangements for their transportation.

Set up utilities: Research and set up utilities in your new home, such as electricity, gas, water, and internet service.

Plan for your mail: Notify the post office of your move and make sure your mail is forwarded to your new address.

Plan for the last days: Make sure you have enough supplies for the last days in your old home and for the first days in your new home, such as food, toiletries, and clothes.

Relocating to a different state can be a big change, but with the right planning and preparation, it can be an exciting and rewarding experience.
